Railway Group D posts — Track Maintainer Grade IV, Assistant (Pointsman), Helper in electrical, mechanical and S&T departments — sit in Level 1 of the pay matrix with an entry basic pay of ₹18,000. Under the 8th Pay Commission, a Group D basic pay works out to roughly ₹46,300 at a 2.57x fitment factor and about ₹51,500 at 2.86x, before DA, HRA and running or hardship allowances.

Duties

  • Maintain track, points and crossings, or assist in shed and depot work
  • Attend to breakdowns and patrolling duty in all weather conditions
  • Support technicians in electrical, mechanical and signalling maintenance
